Derby Girls is an ongoing series of Artist Trading Card-sized India Ink drawings over text. At just 2-1/2” x 3-1/2”, these mini portraits take their cue from the range of extravagant millinery of the Kentucky Derby, capturing the style and character of women socializing in hats. Rich in expression, when drawn on the pages of books these sketches take on a chance-based quality as the lines of text become integral to the drawing, adding an unexpected smirk or twinkle to an eye when met with the stroke of the brush.
